Introduction to role:
We are seeking an Associate Director to join our dynamic, multi-skilled Manufacturing Science and Commercial Supply group within Chemical Development. This team is dedicated to the lifecycle management of commercial active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) at AstraZeneca.
The key priorities are maintaining continuity of supply, protecting our license to operate, and consistently delivering business value by optimising manufacturing processes and supply chain design.
AstraZeneca currently manufactures a high percentage of API externally at Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs).
Accountabilities:
Lead and develop a large multi-skilled team of chemists and analysts responsible for 10 to 15 commercial APIs.
Managethe prioritisation and resourcing of the portfolio of activities within the team and inputting to the wider commercial portfolio prioritisation.
Team responsibilities include scientific leadership to deliver:right first time technology transfers in support of supply chain design, scientific assessment of changes, monitoring of process and method performance, issue resolution, regulatory maintenance (authoring or review of regulatory interactions) and continuous process and method improvement to drive improvements in cost, lead time, sustainability and robustness.
Approval of all regulatory activities associated with assigned products.
Responsibility for developing and driving strategic initiatives to drive capability uplift to deliver AZ current and future portfolio.
Accountability for key partnerships internally and externally.
Essential Skills/Experience:
BSc/PhD level education in relevant discipline.
Significant experience working within a Research and Development and Manufacturing environment, within the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams, with a strong record of building high-performing teams and enhancing team effectiveness.
Direct experience of Marketing Authorisations and post approval changes with a good understanding of ICH.
Thorough understanding of the principles and management of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).

Excellent communication skills and strategic influencing skills across interfaces of discipline, culture, and expertise both internally and externally.
